Mount Enotake

Mount Enotake (728 m), a granite porphyry mountain, is located at the north of Nobeoka city. A legend has it that the mountain is the grave of Ninigi-no-mikoto . Some even claim that the Hokoiwa rock on the mountaintop is his tombstone. In the Southwestern War in 1877, the troops led by Saigo Takamori fled to Kagoshima across Enotake after losing the battle of Wada-goe.
