The many large and small rivers that flow from the Kyushu Sekiryo Mountains and Sobokatamuki National Park have rich water qualities, and many people enjoy cruising on kayaks.
The Kogawa River on the Kitagawa river line of Kitagawa Town is recommended. There is no dam near the headstream, with extra clear waters and relatively high water temperatures thanks to the surrounding forests with mainly laurel trees. Over 170 fishes and water creatures live in all sections of the river, and it is also referred to as the “river of miracles”.
In the summer, ropes are tied between the rocks and trees along the stream, and children play by jumping from the low water bridges.
