Mount Atagoyama, the mecca for romantic encounters

Mount Atagoyama is a 251m mountain in the center of Nobeoka city. The mountain was known as Kasasayama in the olden days, and as the sacred spot for romantic encounter, where Ninigi-no-mikoto who had descended onto earth met and married Konohana-sakuya-hime.

A hiking path runs to the summit, which has been chosen as one of “the 500 beautiful paths in Japan that makes people want to walk.” The nightscape from the observatory is the only one in Miyazaki prefecture chosen among the 100 nightscapes of “Japan’s nightscape heritage.”
