
Various wild birds live in the mountain area of Nobeoka City, which includes a wide forest section in the mountains. Among the 550 wild birds in Japan, around 300 of them can be seen in the northern section of Miyazaki prefecture.
Observable birds include the Japanese bush warbler, white-eye, meadow bunting, varied tit, cuckoo, shrike, Chinese bamboo pheasant, redstart, blue and white flycatcher, pheasant, owl, bulbul, kingfisher, crested kingfisher, and also endangered species such as the mountain hawk eagle.
Recommended observation spots near Mt. Atago and Mt. Mukabaki are near the town and can be easily accessed.
